Stevenson Elementary celebrated its 10th Annual National Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Family on Monday, Sept. 24. Heavy rains during the day forced what was to be “Dinner on the Lawn” to become “Picnic in the Gym”, yet many gathered on blankets and ate together as family and friends. They enjoyed sack suppers with
hot dogs grilled by the Russellville Fire Department. Students and parents alike were allowed time to learn
about the fire truck and the gear the firefighters use. Our
teachers enjoyed sharing the evening with their students, talking with them and
their parents, and just hanging out enjoying some down time
together. Research
has found that the more frequently children eat dinner with their parents, the
less likely they are to smoke, drink, or use illegal drugs. Family Day, A
Day to Eat Dinner with Your Family began in 2001, as a national effort to
promote family dinners as an effective way to help kids grow up safe, healthy,
and drug free. This once-a-year
event helps remind us that these simple things can and do make a difference.
