Weekly Update, March 23rd, 2015

Good Sunday evening to everyone!  We had a busy week at RJSHS last week and we look to have an even busier one this coming week!

Attention Senior Parents—There will be another FASFA session held tomorrow from 8:00-12:00 in the RHS library.  If you need a time other that what is provided here, please contact guidance counselor, Nicole Osborne to make those arrangements.

Report cards were mailed out on Friday. Please be on the lookout for those if you haven’t yet received.  Feel free to contact the school to schedule any teacher conferences as needed regarding your child’s progress.  We are entering one of the busiest times of the school year in terms of activities and assessments.  High school students are currently working in their academic advising rotations on extra prep sessions for their end of course assessments this year.  Students who are currently enrolled in Algebra II, US History, Biology or English II will take an EOC this year that will count 20% of their final overall grade for the course.  That percentage can significantly impact a student’s overall yearly average. Please encourage your students to take these seriously and to be prepared as much as possible before May.

Our RHS Freshmen Academic Team was in action this past weekend in Owensboro.  The team brought home a 1st Place Quick Recall trophy along with a 3rd Place Written Assessment honor.  Individual student results are listed below:

  • Phillip Wilkerson—1st Place Science and 1st Place Language Arts

  • Will Mullen—2nd Place Science

  • Adam Williams—4th Place Math and 4th Place Social Studies

Coach Jennifer Rogers reported that out of 5 matches, the team only lost one and that was by one point!  Congratulations to these students for a job well-done!

A team of RHS Ambassadors traveled to the National School Board Conference in Nashville this morning in order to present as session on student leadership.  Led by advisor Brandon Blake, the RHS Ambassadors have now presented at both the state and national levels regarding how to build student leadership programs within the scope of the school.  We look forward to being able to showcase our school in this capacity with the attendees of these national sessions.

The RMS Jr. BETA Club will travel to Louisville this week for the annual state convention.  There are many 6th, 7th and 8th grade students slated to compete and participate in a variety of events and sessions.  We wish these students, parent chaperones, and staff members—Mrs. Mathis, Mr. Mclean and Mrs. Fynboe the best of luck during their travels and for the convention.

RHS Athletics—The RHS Athletic department, headed by Coach Calvin Head, enjoyed a very successful week with baseball, softball and tennis wins accomplished by our teams.  The Lady Panther softball team is currently 4-1 with big wins this week over Ft. Campbell, Todd Co and Monroe County.  The Todd County win was their first district victory since 2006.  The Lady Panthers is under the direction of head coach Brandy Trimble, assistant Coach Jessie Baker and assistant Coach Amanda Hampton.  Congratulations to Coach Trimble, her staff and the Lady Panther team on a fantastic start to the 2015 season.

The RHS Baseball team picked up a win Friday night against the Butler County Bears giving new head coach, Blake Crabtree, his first career win.  We look forward to more victories for Coach Crabtree, assistant coach Kaleb Crowe and our Panther Baseball team!

The RHS Tennis team is under new leadership this year with Calvin and Tracy Naylor taking on the coaching roles for the boys and girls teams.  Their season opener had the Panther tennis team taking on Logan County Thursday afternoon.  The Panther pulled out a victory beating Logan County 7-2. Good luck to the tennis team as they travel to Muhlenberg County tomorrow afternoon!
