Weekly Update November 3rd, 2014

Good Sunday evening to everyone!
I want to take this opportunity to recognize a few of our students on accomplishments from the past few weeks!
First of all, I want to congratulate our Panther band on placing 7th out of 16 bands at the KMEA State Semi-Finals yesterday in Lexington.  Not only did these students and staff members earn their first Distinguished rating of the season, they did it while battling numerous elements—wind, snow, extremely cold air, etc. This is just a fitting testament to the dedication these students make beginning in the heat of July! We couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments for this season and look forward to next year’s show!!
Our middle school basketball teams, both boys and girls, made their debut this weekend in the Logan Co. Jamboree. I heard that both teams represented our school extremely well and we look forward to their seasons beginning next week!!
Our high school BETA students attending the 3rd District Competition in Bowling Green recently. The following students placed in their categories for the day:
Ashlee Gilbert -  1st place Creative Writing
Sarah Brown, Wesley Stratton, Madison Rose, and Phillip Wilkerson - 3rd Place Quiz Bowl

Tony Pacheco  2nd place Mixed Media Painting
Shayla Oberhausen 2nd place Sewing Stuffed Animals

Congratulations to these students who always do a fine job at the fall and spring district competitions.  Thank you to Mrs. Tanya Mullen for her continued sponsorship and leadership with our BETA club.
Our Jr. BETA students recently had the opportunity to attend a Leadership summit in Gatlinburg. Many of our students were able to attend a variety of sessions designed to further their service and leadership work with this organization.  Thank you to Jr. Beta sponsor, Vicky Mathis, as well as Mrs. Fynboe and Ms. Shoemake for assisting with this trip.
