Meeting Set to Review Russellville Independent School District's Wellness Policy

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Office of Russellville Independent Schools to revise the district’s Wellness Policy. Since 2004, each local education agency has been required by federal and state laws to maintain a local school wellness policy that sets goals for nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness. This includes nutrition guidelines for all foods available on the school campus during the school day.

All local educational agencies that participate in the National School Lunch Program and/or the School Breakfast Program are now required to develop an expanded local school wellness policy consistent with the requirements set forth in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which ensures stakeholder participation in the development of such policies.

The following are invited to be a part of the planning and revising of the district’s Wellness Policy: administrators, teachers, school board members, students, PTO members, site-based decision-making council members, and parents.

For more information about the meeting and/or the district’s Wellness Policy, contact School Nutrition Director Elaine Dixon at 355 South Summer Street, Russellville, Kentucky, by September 19, 2014. Ms. Dixon can also be reached by telephone at 270-726-8405 or via email at [email protected].
