April is Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, therefore, Tuesday, April 12, at 11 a.m. Logan County Protection & Permanency Director, Missy Maxwell Perry, organized and sponsored the 6th Annual Walk Around the Square. Community partners, SES K-Kids and other school children, community officials, and the general public were invited to meet and walk around Carrico Park Square in remembrance of those children that have been abused in Logan County. The story of the blue ribbon campaign was read, and then the group walked to the Historic Logan County Courthouse for the reading of the proclamation which announced April as Child Abuse Prevention/Awareness Month. More reports of suspected child abuse/neglect are made during the month of April than any other month. A collection of 132 Teddy Bears/stuffed animals and 26 plush throws/blankets by SES students and staff through the “Teddy Bear Round-Up” emphasis was held during the month of March. These donated items were delivered to one of the homeless centers in our area. SES Family Resource Coordinator, Carol Kees, noted that these items didn’t come just from SES students and staff, but also community members who learned of the project. Thank you to all the leaders and students for your efforts to bless these little lives.
