Stevenson Elementary hosted Kindergarten Jump Start Program July 13-17

Incoming Kindergarten students received a “jump start” on learning about their new school and meeting new friends this past Monday through Friday from 9am–1pm! This is the first year Stevenson Elementary has offered a Kindergarten Jump Start Program. The program was created for Kindergarten students to come to school before it officially begins Thursday, August 6. They worked on Kindergarten skills such as alphabet letters, rhyming words, counting, and number recognition. These are just to name a few of the reading and math skills taught this week through fun, hands-on activities. They also learned about procedures such as forming a line and walking down the hallway. Throughout the week, the students were given a tour of the school, played on the playground, enjoyed a snack, and ate lunch provided at the school. There was an average of 30 students in attendance each day. Due to this great response, two classrooms were open for the students to work in smaller groups together. The success of this program has been very exciting, and it is anticipated it will become an annual beginning of the SES Kindergarten program!   Co-coordinators, Ashlee Arnold and Amy Duncan, taught one class, and Debbie Taylor and Nikki Shelton taught the second class.
