RIS Students selected to attend Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC, summer, 2017
Last spring at the end of the school year, SES 4th grade teacher, Cassie Reding, received a packet with an opportunity to nominate and make recommendations for students to attend the Junior National Young Leaders conference in Washington, DC for the summer of 2017. The Junior National Young Leaders Conference is Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Today. Students are encouraged to start their leadership journey at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. During this six-day Envision program, students develop leadership skills while having the educational experience of a lifetime. With a focus on influential figures from American history and social advocacy, JrNYLC is an experience that is packed with fun and engaging site experiences as well as engaging activities that bring the concepts and skills of effective leadership to life. Students at JrNYLC learn to work together and collaborate as they develop action plans that they can put into practice in their homes and communities, continuing beyond their conference experience. Ten of our current 5th and 6th grade students were selected to attend this prestigious leadership conference based on the recommendations that Mrs. Reding submitted: Current 5th Graders: Daisie Holder, Madisyn Hudson, Holden Kennedy, Malley Jayne, Elijah McMurry, and Adalee Shrull. Current 6th Graders: Graciann Beard, Clifton Faughn, Anna Ragland, and Layne Steele. All of these listed students received packets in the mail with information for the next steps. Several of these students and their parents have already expressed their interest in attending this conference and in fundraising for expenses to get them there. Superintendent, Leon Smith, stated what a great honor! He expressed his thanks to Mrs. Reding for taking the time to make these recommendations!
