Russellville Ready 2nd Deep Dive Day, 2/9/18
2nd_Senior_Deep_Dive_Day On Friday, Feb. 9, Russellville High School Seniors participated in their second off-campus Deep Dive Day held at the Logan County Area Technology Center. There are 3 of these days scheduled (the first one was held on Sept., 29). During these days, RHS Seniors are divided into groups of 4 to 6 students, and they design and present on current topics of relevance. Students spent the day participating in small-group research projects and then utilized power-point presentations to share their findings to the entire group.  Topics such as gun control, military, diversity, and economics were a few of the in-depth topics the students researched. Students are coached by local community members, members from the Kentucky Department of Education, and educators from both the Russellville Independent School District and Logan Co. Schools. The coaches were: Tina Shoemake, RMS 6th Grade ELA Teacher; Jeremy Bivens, RHS Math Teacher and Senior AA Teacher; Contessa Orr, Logan County Schools Instructional Supervisor; Amy Clark and Melanie Hughes, Logan County Schools; Curtis Higgins, Crystal Higgins, Leesa Moman, and Kaye H/J’Nora Anderson, Kentucky Department of Education; Kim McDaniel, RISD Director of Pupil Personnel; Regina Guthrie, RISD School Psychologist and Behavior Specialist; Lecia Priddy, GREEC CCR coach for RHS; Marisa Duarte and Karen Nunn, GRREC; Cassie Reding, RISD District Instructional Coach; Nancy Skipworth, RISD GT Coordinator and Teacher; and Cassady Wilson, RHS College and Career Coach. Deep Dive Days are part of the new Russellville Ready initiative that focuses on evaluating transition-ready skills in students in RISD. Superintendent, Bart Flener, has facilitated this senior project to guarantee that all RISD Seniors accomplish “Russellville READY!” status which in turn demonstrates their 21st Century skills and the fact that they possess the necessary requirements to be college or career ready.  RJSHS Principal, Mr. Ben Bruni, stated the program has been piloted this year with the 2018 seniors and has already gained state-wide attention for its innovative approach to student evaluation.  RISD will be presenting the Russellville Ready Program to the Kentucky School Board Association later in March. The final Deep Dive Day is scheduled for Friday, March 30.
