Good Sunday evening to all!!

· During the high school grade level meetings, we also showed
students a clip of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. We
used this a conversation starter with our students to discuss their dreams,
aspirations and goals for the next few years of their lives. Our #1 goal
at RJSHS is to ensure that all students leave us as either college or career
ready so that they can become productive members of our community. Please
help us encourage our students to take advantage of the opportunities and the
resources that are available to them to help achieve that goal. We are
going to spend more targeted and focused time in the future on helping students
develop college and career pathways while at our school.

· We also discussed dress code issues that are arising with
our students. The wearing of leggings and stockings as pants is becoming
a prominent fashion style within our society. While we certainly
understand that most of our students like to keep up with the latest fashion
statements and trends, we also understand and recognize that sometimes these
trends are not appropriate for the educational setting. If students
choose to wear items such as leggings, tights, tight-fitting material under-garments,
etc., those items must be worn in conjunction with a top/blouse/dress/tunic
style shirt that is at least as long as their fingertips when arms are hanging
down by their sides. We don’t want to ban the wearing of these item, we
just simply want to provide the guidelines for wearing them appropriately in
the school setting. We also ask that you help us by ensuring students are
wearing their pants at the appropriate level—resting comfortably on the natural
waist—so as to prevent excess sagging. Undergarments, shorts, underwear,
etc. should not be showing and students should be able to walk freely without
having to hold up their pants. We thank you in advance for helping us
with these guidelines regarding student dress.
