Deep Dive #2

Russellville High School Seniors are jetting off into the new year on a course to success.  On Friday, Jan. 11, Russellville High School held its second Deep Dive Day at the newly furnished Russellville 21st Century Center (R21C).  The morning began with a welcome from Superintendent, Mr. Bart Flener.  Afterwards, he presented a PowerPoint on the importance of effective communication, emphasizing the word effective.  Mr. Flener shared his own experiences of when he was or wasn’t being an effective communicator.  Through his interpretation, students realized communicating is a two-way streak.  Sometimes it’s not just about conveying a message clearly, it’s about showing someone how well you can listen.  Employers look for those kinds of traits in the people they hire.  Several of the Seniors were given the floor to explain and give examples of what effective communication was.  As the presentation drew to a close, Mr. Flener reminded the Senior class that it’s important to evaluate one’s emotional and mental well-being.  He wanted to assure the students that the Russellville Independent School system is open to any student who may be in need of help or support.  No matter what it might be, Mr. Flener encouraged the students to give help a chance.  His message resonated across the Senior class and could very well be a reminder some needed.  Mrs. Cassie Reding then took the stage and announced the plans for the day.  Soon after, the group coaches came in and worked with the teams on their volunteer projects.  The students spent the rest of the day finishing PowerPoints until lunch break.  These PowerPoints explained everything down to who the students would be helping and what would have to happen in order to fulfill the person(s) or organization’s needs.  At the very end of Deep Dive Day, the individual teams presented in front of their peers and were judged by a rubric.  All of the projects are very promising ideas, and it will be interesting to see how the soon-to-be-adults will fulfill their tasks.  A special thanks to Slappyz Family Diner for catering the event once again!  Also, a special thanks to all the team coaches, teachers, and administrators involved!
