Ms. Sanders' Class visits Just Piddlin Farm, 10/24/18

Just Piddlin

With the leaves beginning to change color, and Halloween right around the corner, Mrs. Linda Shelton, Dir. of Exceptional Education, thought it would be nice for Ms. Cyndi Sanders’ to take her students out and celebrate the new season.  Therefore, on Wed., Oct. 24, this Class took a break from school and traveled to the “Just Piddlin Farm” in South Union, Ky, where they enjoyed a day full of fall-themed activities and entertainment.  Just Piddling is one of the largest agritourism operations in Kentucky.  Around this time every year, the community comes out to the farm to have celebrations/meetings in “The Hive” gathering space or to purchase exclusive honey & baked goods from the bakery.  Anyone can roam through the patches and pick a pumpkin to take home.  The farm is known for its quirky pumpkins that come in all sizes and shapes.  You can adventure through the corn maze, go on a hay ride, or shop for fall decor.  The farm distributes locally grown produce, has its own kids’ play area, and allows people to observe the bees in their observation farm.  Two of our students from the class had enough courage to put on the beekeeping veil and interact with the bees up close.  Talk about brave!  Maintaining a farm is hard work, and there’s a lot that goes into that which includes keeping it from being destroyed by pesticide and weeds.  Upon their return the students then enjoyed a hearty meal at Roy’s.  There’s not a doubt we all wish we could’ve enjoyed the Just Piddlin Farm with Ms. Cyndi Sanders’ Class.  It’s good to take a break sometimes and smell the roses, or in this case, pumpkins! The following students went on the field trip: Jenny Ramsey, Jacob Lyne, Isaiah Boisseau, Mary Ann Hamilton, Big Dog Greene, and Kevin Raines.  Adult chaperones were:  Cyndi Sanders, Shea Myers, Callie Haynes, Lisa Meacham, and Student Intern, Hunter McDowell.  (See additional pictures on our facebook page.)
