2018 Operation Preparation and College and Career Fair, 3/28/18
This year’s
Operation Preparation took a significantly different direction as it was held Wednesday, March
28. Both
Russellville Middle School 8th graders and Russellville High School 9th
Graders traveled to the recently opened Logan Career and Technical Center. RJSHS Youth Service Coordinator, Debbie
Browder, planned and organized the efforts of the students getting to rotate
through a wide variety of potential professions from the Logan
County/Russellville area, and they had the opportunity to speak with local
business owners and leaders about what to expect from the area job market. Those who presented were as follows: Chris McGinnis – WRUS; Det. Kenneth Edmonds -
Russellville Police Department; Chuck Rogers - Edward Jones Financial; Shane
Hayes - Gerald Printing; Christy Farmer - Holly Tree Daycare and Preschool; Angela
Wells - Russellville Head Start; Susan Evans and Kasey Reynolds - Social
Services; Kathy Thweatt and Bethany Kenney - Barren River Health Department; Kaitlynn Cisney - Inter Barren River Health
Department; Samir Patel - Orthopedic Plus; Kelly Holman - Orthopedic Plus; Shane
Holinde – WBKO; Taylor Shutt - Logan County Public Library; and Angie Harlen and
Wendy Moore - SKY TEC. Also, that same day, at Russellville High School,
College and Career Coach, Cassady Wilson, had the 10th and 11th Graders
spending the first half of the day in a College Fair where they met with college,
military, and technical school representatives in the High School gym. Those
who were present were as follows: Berea College, Brescia College, Campbellsville University, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Kentucky State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lincoln Technology, Lindsey Institute of Cosmetology, Lindsey Wilson College, Murray State University, National Guard, Nossi College of Art, P.J.'S College of Cosmetology, South Central Kentucky Career and Technical College, South Central Kentucky Career and Technical College Nursing Program, University of Kentucky, University of Pikeville, Western Kentucky University, U.S. Army, and U.S. Airforce.
