Freshmen Academic Team Advances!

Freshmen Academic Team Advances!

Our RHS Freshmen Academic Team competed at Owensboro High School in a qualifying round for the National History Bowl and advanced. The team brought home a 1st Place Quick Recall trophy along with a 3rd Place Written Assessment honor. Individual student results are listed: Phillip Wilkerson—1st Place Science and 1st Place Language Arts; Will Mullen—2nd Place Science; Adam Williams—4th Place Math and 4th Place Social Studies. Coach, Jennifer Rogers, reported that out of five matches, the team only lost one, and that was by one point! These five young men qualify to advance to the National History Bowl in Washington D.C. They are: Adam Williams, Will Mullen, Phillip Wilkerson, Brennan Hughes, and Brandon Johns. This was the first time students from RHS have competed in this competition EVER. Four of these boys are freshmen, and one is a sophomore so they competed in the JV bracket. The format of their matches is different from that of the regular Governor's Cup rounds, and these boys enjoyed the change of pace. It was a great experience because it allowed them to shine in their area of interest which is US and World history.  Nationals will be held April 23-25, in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to these students for a job well-done!
