Weekly Update, August 17th, 2015

Good Sunday afternoon to all!
We have had a great first full week of school with many activities and events underway at Russellville Jr/Sr High School!

Congratulations to senior, Nicholas Scarbrough, for being chosen to represent RJSHS during this year’s Leadership Logan program.  We know that Nick will make us proud during his tenure on this committee!!

Athletic Director and Coach Calvin Head has worked this summer to establish some new opportunities for our student athletes at RJSHS.  One activity is the establishment of a school Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT).  This is a new program in which we have chosen to participate that was developed by the IDEALS Foundation.  The IDEALS Foundation has worked with high school student athletes since 1993 helping them to develop into positive role models and more influential leaders.  This opportunity will be available to our Junior athletes and those students have already received a letter, an invitation and information about the application process for the SALT team.  Please ask your student about this packet and encourage he or she to complete it and return to Coach Head tomorrow.  These students have also been invited to participate in a KHSAA HYPE Conference in Bowling Green on Sept. 2nd.  Please make sure to return those documents to Coach Head, as well.  Our athletic department is working diligently to provide these leadership opportunities to our student athletes as we work to establish high expectations for these students.  We certainly hope that these students will take advantage of these impactful events during their athletic careers at our school.

Any student interested in applying for a FCCLA office should complete and return an application to Mrs. McGinnis by this Friday!  Club dues must be paid in order to apply for offices within the organization.  Please see Mrs. McGinnis for more information about this opportunity.

Both  middle school and high school football teams had strong showing last week against their opponents!  Both teams will be traveling this week!  We encourage you to attend those games and show your Panther support on the road!  We have a few home events this week with middle school softball and volleyball in action, as well as the opening game for the soccer team!!  Come out and support one of our hard-working team this week!
