Russellville Independent Schools Opening Day

Russellville Independent Schools Opening Day

The Russellville Independent Schools celebrated their Opening Day on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, with a large crowd gathered at Crossroads Church.  Cindy Holloway served everyone a lovely continental breakfast, and Mayor Mark Stratton delivered the invocation.  Pastor Chris Cowen welcomed all to the meeting and jokingly stated he was also honored as Mr. Smith had ask him to make sure the crowd knew where the restrooms were located.  Mrs. Tammy Adams with Charles M. Moore Insurance shared information on Worker's Compensation and encouraged all to be as safe as possible with the upcoming school year.  Robert White, CEO of Electric Plant Board, shared information regarding United Way and gave testimony of his personal involvement with them.  Superintendent Leon Smith, Principal Lisa White of Stevenson, and Principal, Kim McDaniel of Russellville Junior/Senior High School, gave introductions of all the new staff members this year.  "Nao", our little robot and newest member (pictured) "stole the show" as he introduced himself and shared he is excited to be working with special needs and autistic students.  Mr. James C. Milam, Board Chairman, gave the introduction of our guest speaker and graduate of Russellville High School, Mr. Bob Owen.  Mr. Owen, owner of Owen Communications, is a motivational humorist who insists on finding laughter in everything.  True to his word, laughs were abounding as well as insightful encouragement to make the choice to have good attitudes as we begin each day.  The staff and faculty were dismissed to continue the day getting prepared for tomorrow, Thursday, August 6, 2015, the students' first day of school!
