Weekly Update October 27th, 2014

Good Sunday evening to everyone!

Parent-Teacher Conference Night
I want to begin by reminding you that we will have parent-teacher conferences this Tuesday from 4:30-7:30.  Once you arrive at the school, you will find a sign-up sheet for ten-minute time slots outside each teacher's door.  Please sign-up for a designated spot with those teachers you wish to visit. If you are unable to participate or if you aren't able to get the time slot needed, please feel free to call the guidance office to schedule a conference with the teacher needed.
I want to recognize and thank Ms. Baker, Mrs. Naylor, Mrs. Celsor and Mrs. Myers for their help in making sure our senior recognition night on Friday went smoothly! I appreciate their assistance throughout the week on this tribute to our senior athletes and their parents.  Even though the football team came up short against Mayfield, it was an exciting night of which we can be proud.
Congratulations to our Marching Panther Band, Mr. Brian Brown and his staff
on placing 3rd overall at the west regionals this weekend.  The final score was 79.3 which means they missed a Distinguished rating by .7 of a point!  We couldn't be more proud of the accomplishments of this group of students.  The Panther band will go on to compete in Lexington this Saturday as part of the state competition.
During our Pep rally which was held on Friday afternoon, we recognized our Students of the Month for September. Those students are as follows:
Zach Dowlen--6th Grade
Ania Hardsey--7th Grade
Stephen Mayes--8th Grade
Cole Celsor--9th Grade
Loreal Cheaney--10th Grade
CJ Borden--11th Grade
Brian Clinard--12th Grade
These students are chosen by their grade-level team of teachers as they students who most display the characters of honesty, diligence, integrity and kindness toward their class mates.  Congratulations to these deserving students!
We also recognized another group of students with our "Heartbeat of the Team" awards for fall sports.  This is a new tradition that we began this year to recognize those students who exhibit the overall essence of their team.  These students are chosen by their other teammates as being that one member of the team who encourages, supports and improves the overall dynamic of the team.  Those chosen are as follows:
Middle School Recipients:
Softball--Taryn Gray
Volleyball--Maleah Buckner
Football--Jacob Naylor
Soccer--Jesus Zamarippa
Cheerleading--Halle York
High School Recipients:
Golf--Camron Tisdale
Volleyball--Jalonda Well
Football--Coco Darden
Soccer--Eduardo Rodriguez
Cheerleading--Mateah Black
Marching Band--Derrick Porter
Congratulations to these students on being the ultimate Panthers!!
Our senior BETA club students also participated in the 3rd District BETA competition on Friday.  I will have individual and group results from that event in next week's memo!
