Weekly Update September 22nd, 2014

Good Sunday afternoon to everyone!

We have another action packed week ahead of us at Russellville Jr/Sr High School!

I want to take the opportunity to recognize our RJSHS Ambassador program on receiving an invitation to present at the 75th Annual National School Board Association Conference this March.  Mr. Brandon Blake, ambassador coordinator and assistant principal, took this group to present at the Kentucky School Board Conference this past January with the group receiving many accolades for their program.  Their presentation, “Creating Next Generation Leaders through Student Ambassadors”, was chosen over numerous other proposals for this national honor.  Congratulations to this group of young students and Mr. Blake for striving to make this program as strong as it can possibly be and for supporting our school by helping to create and promote these young leaders.  There will be more information in the coming weeks about applying to be a part of our ambassador program for this school year.

We want to congratulate our RHS Marching Band on a strong performance during the LCHS Festival of Bands show on Saturday afternoon.  This hardworking group of young men and women have improved upon this performance and we look forward to the regional and state potential of this group.

The football team was victorious over Todd Co on Saturday at the McCracken Co Bowl.  I also received feedback on how mannerly, polite and gracious our football team was while eating at a local establishment in Paducah.  We know how awesome our kids are but it sure is nice when other people recognize it and compliment them, as well.

Our RTI Coordinators and teachers have been working diligently on improving our Response to Intervention program for our school this year.  RTI is the process in which students are identified as needing more assistance or more enrichment opportunities based on specific sets of data and information about the needs of individual students.  Our team has worked prior to the beginning of school and since school started to ensure that students have been correctly identified and placed based on their needs according to different sets of data.  Starting tomorrow, students will begin focusing specifically on enrichment and intervention/assistance opportunities during our academic advising (AA) period which is built into our schedule.  You will be receiving more specific information about your child and how his/her needs are being met during this time period.
