RIS celebrates Veterans Day

On Friday, 11/11/16, Russellville Independent Schools were well represented at local Veterans’ Day Programs. Miss Emma McReynolds, a RJSHS Junior, sang the National Anthem at the Historic Courthouse lawn for the annual Veterans Day Celebration. Others attending this program were Mayor Mark Stratton; the Ft. Campbell Color Guard; Logan County Judge Executive, Logan Chick; Jailer, Phil Gregory; guest speaker, Lt. Col. James Yastrzemsky; guest musician, Kenny Gregory; State Representative, Martha Jane King; and many of our Honored Veterans from each branch of our military. The Russellville Panther Platoon celebrated Veterans Day at the VFW. Superintendent, Mr. Leon Smith, stated it was a proud day for the Russellville Panther Platoon, participating with Logan County JROTC cadets, and he spoke a special thanks to Lt. Colonel Triplett and Master Sargent Brockman for their willingness to work with our RJSHS students. Stevenson Elementary held its own celebration for Veterans Day as they assembled to share the Pledge of Allegiance, heard the National Anthem sung by the Seal Choir, and listened to testimonials from two faculty members, Cynthia Duncan and Sandra light, as they shared inspiring and encouraging words of their time spent in the military. Our RJSHS and SES students presented well. We are Panther Proud!
