Hope Harpor Teaches Internet Safety at SES

The Stevenson Elementary Family Resource Center collaborated with Hope Harbor in order to provide the fifth grade students at SES some very pertinent instruction on safety guidelines while using the internet. Hope Harbor representative Megan Talcott (pictured) covered cyber-bullying, the need to report inappropriate online activity, and personal safety. She used interactive instruction to help the students more clearly understand that, once pictures, words, and images are placed on internet sites or sent by text, they will always exist in an electronic form, even if they are "deleted." Students were also instructed on how to protect themselves while using popular aps like Facebook, Snapchat, Kik, Twitter, etc. Although most of the sites technically require users to be 13 or older, the sites are frequently used by 'tweens.
