Weekly Update May 5th

Good Sunday afternoon to all! I hope you have been able to enjoy this
beautiful day in some capacity. As we
begin this leg of the school year, I want to remind you that we have several
events scheduled for these last few weeks.
We will do our best to keep you as informed about these events and
possible changes as quickly as possible.

Teacher Appreciation Week

--For those of you who don’t know, May 5^th-9^th
is Teacher Appreciation Week. We would
like to take this opportunity to thank all of our certified and classified staff
members for all they do to make our school a better place and for all they do
to help our students become successful and productive adults. Many of our teachers are at school each
morning long before they are required to be there and stay well beyond their
required time in the evenings. We are
blessed to have such supportive teachers working with our students and we
commend their dedication and devotion to our school. Please take the opportunity this week to
thank a teacher –past, present or future—for his or her service to our school
and community.

Russellville Jr./Sr. High School Academic Awards Ceremony/Book
Fair/Art Show
--The 13^th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony will
be held May 5^th at 6:00 in the RHS Gym. Over 200 students will be recognized for a
variety of awards and honors during this event.
Invitations have been sent to students receiving awards for this
ceremony. The RHS Book Club will also be
hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during the awards ceremony and throughout the
rest of this week. Come prepared to purchase literary resources and help
support our book club! The RJSHS Art
Club will also be hosting their annual art show in the lobby.

Russellville Drama Department
--The RJSHS Dram Department, led by Mr. Brian Brown, has been working feverishly for the past few
months on the musical Willy Wonka. The
first performances will be held on May 10^th at 2:30 and 7:00 in this
high school auditorium. Please come out
to enjoy the artistic and musical talents our drama club students! If you can’t make it this weekend, more
performances will be scheduled for the following weekend, as well.

Testing

--The next few weeks will be centered on completing all of
our required testing windows for numerous assessments. These include AP tests, K-PREP and EOC
assessments starting with AP assessments tomorrow. We ask that parents and families help by
encouraging students to get appropriate amounts of rest and sleep during this time
in addition to ensuring that students eat an appropriate breakfast each
morning. The schedules are as follows:

Advanced Placement Exams

May 5^th—Chemistry  
May 6^th—Art History
May 7^th—Calculus 
May 8^th—English Literature
May 9^th—English Language/Statistics
May 12^th—Biology
May 14^th—US History  
May 15^th—World History

All AP exams will be administered at the tech center building
located on 7^th Street.
Students should report to the center prior to 8:00 a.m. and will be
released to return to school when finished.

K-PREP—Testing begins on Wednesday, May 7^th

May 7^th—11^th grade students take
On-Demand Writing; 6^th and 7^th grade students take
Reading Part A and Part B; 8^th grade students take Reading Parts A,
B, and C.

May 8^th—10^th grade students take
On-Demand writing; 6^th and 7^th grade students take
Reading Part C; 8^th grade students take Math Parts A, B, and C

May 9^th—6^th and 7^th grade
students take Math Part A and B; 8^th grade students take Social
Studies Part A and B.

K-PREP testing will resume on May 12^th and
conclude on May 13^th.

EOC—End of course assessments will be administered for the
following courses:

May 12^th—Algebra II
May 15^th—US History
May 16^th—English II
May 19^th—Biology

*Please remember that the overall score for the EOC exam
counts as 15% of the overall grade for the student for that course.
