Russellville has Winners all around!!

Over the past two weeks, competitions have been held, and our Russellville students have been actively involved and have “brought home the trophies!” Tuesday, 01/26/16, the RHS Senior Beta members attended the state convention in Louisville. Highlights from the convention include the following: Tony Pacheco—2^nd place, Spanish – (Tony also qualified for the National Convention in New Orleans to be held during the summer); Scrapbook team—5^th place; Living Literature—4^th place; Will Mullen—6^th place, Social Studies; Sam Cundiff—8^th place, Creative Writing. Sponsor, Tanya Mullen, stated all of our Beta students had great projects! Congratulations to all who participated! The RMS Jr. Beta Club students are currently preparing for the state convention, under their sponsors, Vicky Mathis and Andrew McLean.

That same Tuesday evening, after being rescheduled twice due to snow, five area schools were finally able to compete in the Kentucky Governor’s Cup Middle Grades District Academic Team competition at Russellville Middle School. The results of the competition follow: Quick Recall: 1^st place - Russellville Middle School; 2^nd place - Olmstead School; 3^rd place - Lewisburg Middle School; 4^th place - Adairville School; and 5th place - Chandlers School. Future Problem Solving: 1^st place - Russellville Middle School; 2nd place - Adairville School. Mathematics written assessment: 1^st place - Jaden Hayes; 2^nd place, Nick Petrie; 3rd place - Skylar McLevain; 4th place - Rylee Hobbs; 5th place - James Wheeler. Science written assessment: 1st place - Skylar McLevain; 2^nd place - Matthew Wilkerson; 3rd place - Elijah Hopkins; 4^th place - Noah Rust; 5th place - Tristan Blake. Social studies written assessment: 1^st place - Benjamin Slack; 2nd place - Jay Hardison; 3^rd place - Tristan Blake; 4th place - Kendal Deen; 5^th place - Noah Rust. Language arts written assessment: 1^st place - Erin Kemp; 2^nd place - Caroline Davenport; 3^rd place - Rylee Hobbs; 4^th place - Jaden Hayes; 5^th place - Mary Mayhugh. Arts and humanities written assessment: 1^st place - Ashlyn Tracy; 2^nd place - Price Violette; 3th place - Erin Kemp; 4th place - Mary Mayhugh; 5^th place - Jenna Robertson. Written composition: 1^st place - Brandy West; 2^nd place - Lauren Pitts; 3^rd place - Chloe Watkins; 4th place - Addie White; 5^th place - Abby Hinton. Hume Sportsmanship Award: Olmstead School. Thanks to Mrs. Tina Shoemake, coach of our team, Mrs. Donna Wilkerson, who assists greatly with both middle school and high school academic teams, and to all of our parents who contributed time, food, and other resources to make this a great event for our school. The RHS Academic Team also competed in the District Governor’s Cup held at LCHS this past week. The high school academic team results are as follows: Overall—2^nd place, RHS; Quick Recall—1^st place, RHS; Future Problem Solving - 2^nd place, RHS; Adam Williams—2^nd place, Math; Phillip Wilkerson—1^st place, Science; Brennan Hughes—3^rd place, Social Studies; Will Mullen—4^th place, Social Studies and 2^nd place, Art & Humanities; Kendra Farlee—2^nd place, Written Composition; Ashlee Gilbert—3^rd place, Written Composition; Anna Shoulders—4^th place, Written Composition. Students placing in the top five in written assessment and written composition and the top two in future problem solving and quick recall teams will advance to Regional competition at James E. Bazzell Middle School in Scottsville on February 9 & 13, 2016. Kentucky Governor’s Cup is sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition and was founded in 1986, as a way to promote, reward, and recognize outstanding academic achievement. Since that time, over a quarter of a million students have taken part in the event. Governor’s Cup is the state’s premier academic event, involving over 20,000 students, nearly 1200 schools, and thousands of coaches, administrators, parents, and community leaders who see the rewards gained from encouraging academic performance through properly structured and professionally administered academic competition. We look forward to our team competing at the upcoming Regional Governor’s Cup match! Thursday, January 28, 2016, the following RHS DECA students attended the Regional DECA Conference at WKU: Mia Bethea, Mateah Black, DeAndre Bradshaw, Titiana Day, Johnny Drumgole, Elizabeth Fisher, MJ Jones, Paul Jones, Kody Kirby, DeShawn Mason, Shailyn Milan, Colby Nichols, Nicholas Scarbrough, Carly Speck, and Chandara Vanna. The following is the competition results for our students who participated: Kody Kirby & Elizabeth Fisher - 1^st place, Hospitality & Tourism Operations Research; Chandara Vanna & Mia Bethea - 3^rd place, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan; Carly Speck & Titiana Day - 1^st place, Learn & Earn Project; Mateah Black & Shailyn Milan - 4^th place, Community Service Project; Nicholas Scarbrough-1^st place, Audio Electronic Advertising; Paul Jones & MJ Jones - 3^rd place, Video Electronic Advertising; DeShawn (Pedro) Bradshaw & Colby Nichols – 4^th place, Video Electronic Advertising. Sponsor, Mrs. Paulette Smith, reports that all of our DECA students did a great job and represented our school very well.

Saturday, 01/30/16, The RHS FCCLA Club competed in their regional event at Allen County. Sponsor, Ashley McGinnis, reports the following results: Jalonda Wells and Addie Hendley-1st Place Sports Nutrition; Ashley Young-1st Place Job Interview; Allison McDaniel-1st Place Career Investigation; Cierra Collins and Destiny Leblanc-2nd Place Promote and Publicize; Monserrat Morales and Chelsea Clinard-4th Place Chapter in Review Portfolio. Mrs. McGinnis stated she is VERY proud of this year's Regional FCCLA results, and all 1st Place winners will advance to the Kentucky State Leadership Conference in March!
