Weekly Update, March 7th, 2016

Good Sunday evening to all!

RJSHS Sophomore, Phillip Wilkerson, was notified this week that he has been accepted to both the Craft Academy at Morehead State University and the Gatton Academy at WKU.  Both of these prestigious programs are dual credit options for high school juniors and seniors and allow admitted students to have a college experience beginning with their junior year.  Phillip has until March 11th to decide which program he will choose.  We are very proud of this accomplishment and wish Phillip the very best at the school of his choice!

This past week, we also celebrated some recognitions for some of our RJSHS Faculty members.  Ms. Jessie Baker, US History teacher, was honored at the annual Logan County Chamber dinner as the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award.   Ms. Baker, along with 6th grade math teacher, Mrs. Kaylee Crowder, have also been chosen as recipients of the Campbellsville University 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award for their outstanding, daily contributions to the betterment of our school.  Congratulations to both of these young women and thank you for all that you do for our school and for our students.

The Russellville Archery Team hosted an archery tournament this past weekend with over 600+ archers competing.  The team put up a combined score of 3.066 and came in 3rd place overall.  Coach Rust has expressed his appreciation to all the parents and individuals who helped make this another successful tournament at RJSHS!! Way to go, Panther Archers!! Good luck at the tournament this weekend in Adairville!

Band members, from both the high school and middle school programs, participated this weekend in Solos and Ensembles with many students receiving proficient and distinguished ratings.  We will have more details to share about this event!  High school band members, CJ Borden, Kaylee Silvey, Maleigha Stovall, Adam Williams and Zach Baker participated in the WKU Honors Band program this weekend, as well!  Congratulations to all our band students on their accomplishments!!

Our 2016 basketball season officially ended Wednesday night with a heartbreaking, one-point loss to Russell County during the 4th Region Tournament at WKU.  We are extremely proud of our Panther and Lady Panther teams this season and appreciate the hard work and dedication shown by the team members and their coaching staffs.  We are now gearing up for our spring sports and have softball and baseball games on the schedule for this week!  Come out and support our spring teams!!

We have several students traveling to the state DECA competition in Louisville!  Good luck and safe travels to this group and sponsor, Mrs. Paulette Smith!
