A heart warming Christmas Story

A heart warming Christmas Story

Carol Kees, Stevenson Family Resource Center Coordinator, contacted me earlier this week, and shared she had a story for me that needed to be told…everyone needed to hear this! On Tuesday, 12/15/15, I had the privilege of meeting a young lady, a third grader at Stevenson Elementary, McKenna Mayhew. The story unfolds as McKenna’s birthday will be December 21, “the first day of winter”, and while sitting at the kitchen table with her mom, Amber Loyd, she was asked what she would like to receive for her birthday. This special little girl shared with her mom that she knew there would be children around her that may not get any Christmas presents, so this year for her birthday, she would like to provide Christmas presents for some of those children. McKenna’s mom contacted Carol, and the process began. Three children were selected from the SES Angel Tree. As I talked with McKenna, she was so excited that she was able to give a preschool girl a “Baby Alive” and two 1st grade boys a “monster” truck each! She was also excited they were able to purchase these gifts on “Black Friday!” and get some great deals!! With that said, she gave Mrs. Carol a “high-five”! She isn’t aware of to whom the presents are going to be given, but she knows they will be told that they received these gifts because of a little girl’s Birthday wishes! Along with McKenna’s gifts, each child will receive 2 shirts and 2 pants. Carol sent McKenna an early birthday card thanking her for her kind heart and informing her of all the items that would be given to the children. McKenna couldn’t wait, opened her birthday card early, and was thrilled! She stated she’s hung the card to see and remind her! Carol Kees has sponsored the Angel Tree at Stevenson for many years, and this year has been extra special with the selflessness, good-heartedness, and great intentions displayed by this “little angel”. I must agree with Carol, this is a story that needs to be shared. Merry Christmas everyone and “Happy Birthday, McKenna!”
