Quad State is an Honors Band Clinic held on the campus of Murray
State University. Students are recommended by
their Directors, and the Murray State Music Faculty make the
selections. Acceptance into this Honor Band Clinic is highly
competitive. Approximately 400 students are selected out of over 800
recommendations. Students audition Thursday afternoon and are placed
in one of four honors bands. They spend Thursday night, Friday, and
Saturday morning rehearsing with their bands and then perform four to five
pieces at the Quad State Concert on Saturday afternoon. Students also get
to attend a concert by the MSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra. Oystein
Baadsvik, who is most likely the greatest tuba player alive, was featured this year. This is the first time Russellville
High School has taken a large group of students to Quad State. They
traveled to Murray Thursday, Feb. 22, for the weekend, and the following
students were selected to participate in the Quad State Band Clinic at Murray
State University: Zach Baker, Noah Brown,
Ashlee Gilbert, Madison Hyams, Brandon Johns, Katie Paul, Allison
Tatum, MyDuyen Tran, Brandy West, Lucy Wilkinson, Adam Williams, and Kyran Williams. Russellville High School has so many talented
young musicians, and this was an opportunity for them to learn and grow beyond
the classroom experience. Brian E. Brown is the Director of Bands with Russellville Independent
Schools.
